Legend tells us that Chang'e fell in love with an archer named Houyi who shot down nine suns threatening Earth with destruction using his magical arrows. In gratitude for her help during this crisis Houyi married Chang'e but she later consumed an elixir of immortality meant for him causing her ascension into heaven where she became goddess of the moon.

A beautiful white snake spirit named Bai Suzhen falls deeply in love with a mortal man named Xu Xian while disguising herself as his wife due to her inability to marry another immortal after being cursed by Buddha's disciple Fahai out of jealousy towards Xu Xian's wealth & success leading ultimately resulting into conflict between good vs evil forces
