Introduction to the Story of Sun Wukong

Sun Wukong, also known as the Monkey King, is one of the most famous characters in Chinese literature and folklore. His story has been passed down for generations and has been adapted into numerous books, plays, and films. The most well-known adaptation is "Journey to the West," a 16th-century novel by Wu Cheng'en that tells the story of Sun Wukong's journey with three other companions to retrieve sacred scriptures from India.

Sun Wukong's Birth and Early Life

According to legend, Sun Wukong was born on Flower Fruit Mountain in southern China. He was born with supernatural strength and agility, but he was also very mischievous and troublesome. As a young adult, he became involved with a group of bandits who lived in caves on Mount Huaguo.

The Gathering Storm: Rebellion Against Heaven

One day, while exploring an abandoned temple on Mount Huaguo, Sun Wukong stumbled upon a magical peach that granted him immortality. With his newfound powers, he began causing chaos throughout heaven by stealing peaches from the Peach Garden of Immortality. This led to him being captured by heavenly soldiers under General Li Jing.

A Deal with Buddha: Becoming an Ally

During his imprisonment at Laojun Temple on Earthly Realm Peak (a mountain peak below heaven), Sun Wukong met Bodhisattva Guanyin (the Goddess of Mercy) who helped him escape from prison after promising her that he would use his powers for good if she saved him.

Becoming an Ally: Joining Forces with Tang Sanzang

After escaping from prison again when attempting to steal more peaches from heaven during his stay at Laojun Temple under house arrest imposed by Jade Emperor himself following another rebellion attempt against heaven; this time joining forces together they form alliances between them which results in Tang Sanzang becoming their master as they embark together towards India along side Zhu Bajie (Pigsy) & Sha Monk (Sandy).
