Introduction

The Weaving Maiden (Zhinü) was a celestial being who resided on the moon with her parents while she worked tirelessly at her loom every night under their watchful gaze. Her counterpart was an ordinary mortal named Niulang (Cowherd), who lived in a humble village on Earth with his adopted daughter Daji.

The Forbidden Love

One day during his visit to market for provisions, Niulang discovered Zhinü weaving silk clouds by moonlight near Lake Dongting. He fell deeply in love with her beauty and skill but knew that their union was forbidden by heaven's laws that separated mortals from gods.

The Unbreakable Bond

Despite this obstacle, they decided to marry each other in secret when Zhinü became pregnant with their child - Chang'e Jr., also known as Chang'er or Yinzhihou (the Jade Rabbit). Their happiness was short-lived as Heaven soon learned about their marriage and forbade them from seeing each other again.

Separation Pain

Niulang built a bridge made entirely out of cowhide called "Magpie Bridge" using magpies' feathers tied together with red threads so he could cross over into heaven once more just long enough to see Zhinü before returning back down where he belonged.

Heavenly Intervention & Reunion

Moved by their deep love for one another despite all odds against them both being forced apart due largely because they were not meant be together according to heavenly decree since humans aren't supposed interact directly w/ divine beings like gods/goddesses; thus causing quite some controversy amongst those residing within heavens themselves too!
